Should I Take This Class? (And Other Questions)

We've announced with great excitement our new webinar on both the practical side and the mysteries of line-editing. You may be thinking that it's nice that we are excited, but you still have some questions. Specifically, one of these:

If you've taken one of our revision classes before: Why should you take this? Will it overlap with that previous class? And what's that alumni pricing thing?

If you haven't taken one of our revision classes before: Why should you take this? Will you be missing key background?

Is this for beginners or more experienced writers?

And what do people say about it?

If you've taken one of our revision classes before: Anyone who has taken an online or in-person class with us built around our "core curriculum" will remember the point at which we move from "big picture" revision to "tight focus" revision, and comment on the line-editing stage we are leaving out, and why we are doing that. This webinar addresses what we left out, and fits snugly between those two areas. There is no overlap, but you'll understand just where it fits in the process, and by taking it you'll have skills that cover the entire revision process. Take it to complete your revision education, in other words.

And to make that decision easier, we set up alumni pricing. Anyone who has taken one of our revision workshops, online or in-person, is entitled to take this webinar at a reduced rate, regardless of when you sign up (i.e., the price won't expire like our early bird pricing will. Details on the main information/registration page.

If you haven't taken one of our revision classes before: This class does fit into our core revision workshop, but the good news is we have built it to be entirely free-standing. It doesn't assume any prior knowledge or skills. If you want to better understand line-by-line, sentence-by-sentence editing, then it's a course you should consider taking.

Who it's for: The above point that the class doesn't assume prior knowledge or skills leads directly into the question of who it's for. As with other classes we offer, the line-editing webinar is for both beginners and those with more experience. Some of the practical exercises will review topics that more experienced writers will already know, but we build from there into the "mysteries" of line-editing -- the part that's not objectively teachable -- an area that all of us (editors included) are still learning.

What people say about it: Here are recent online comments:

Jo Knowles: a great opportunity to learn line editing with two of the best! Harold Underdown and Eileen Robinson are giving a 7-week webinar series on the ins and outs and art of line editing. A great skill to have when editing your own work, as well as if you are seeking freelance editorial opportunities!

Bruce Coville: I am often asked for advice about writing books for kids. And, obviously, after a hundred books and 40 years, I have some insight into the process. But for deep insight, you can hardly do better than editor Harold Underdown, who comes at this from years on the editorial side.

Kathy Halsey: A wonderful webinar opportunity is yours with none other than Harold Underdown and Eileen Robinson. Check out this link and register NOW.

Joanna Marple: Writers, two terrific editors I have been fortunate to hear teach, Harold Underdown and Eileen Robinson are offering a new-week line editing webinar. These are skills that will make any manuscript stronger.

Jane Heitman Healy: Writers, esp. for writers for young people! Harold Underdown and Eileen Robinson have been helping writers re-vision and revise their mss. for several years. They have a brand new course to offer about line-editing. I have taken previous "big picture" revision courses and can attest to their worth. I expect the same from this one.
