Editing Without an Editor Webinar:
Who Should Take It

We have been asked by a number of people if this webinar will be right for them. They've ranged from a beginner who was concerned it might be too advanced to a published author who was afraid it would be too basic. Actually, we've worked hard to set it up so that people at different stages in their writing careers would benefit, and it's worked out that way when we've given it in the past as a real-world workshop. We work also to address a variety of kinds of books, from picture books to novels, presenting techniques that can be adapted in different situations.

We aren't saying that "Editing without an Editor" is for everyone, but here are some examples of situations writers might be in who would find it useful:

And in fact so far, we know we have some writers just getting started in their career who have signed up for the webinar--and at least one writer, who has had a long career publishing picture books, who has registered to see what she can learn.

Crucially, though we recommend you have a manuscript on which you can practice our techniques, you don't need to be in the revision stage of an active manuscript to benefit. You can use a manuscript you just started, or one you set aside. You could even use a manuscript you think is all done. The techniques and understandings will be in your pocket when you need them--weeks, months, even years later.

Who Should Not Take the Webinar

Of course, the webinar isn't for everyone. You'll find other workshops are more useful if one of these describes you:
  • You've been writing for children for some time now and find that your manuscripts don't need revision at all.
  • You have developed a writing and revision process that works for you every time.
  • You write in a specific genre and want only specific techniques tailored to that genre.
If you're still not sure, we're happy to hear from you. Just write to us. Otherwise, please read up on the webinar. We hope you'll join us.
